Angola: National Tennis Vow to Repeat Win At Region 5 Title

Luanda — Angolan Tennis Federation pledged to win the gold medal, in pairs, in the Region 5 Games, started Monday in Lilongwe (Malawi), thus repeating the last edition's mark held in Lesotho.

According to the head of the delegation to the event, which ends on December 10, Fernando Malangue, the task will be difficult and he highlighted South Africa as the main opponent.

Speaking to ANGOP, before the departure of the Angolan delegation to the event on Sunday, he said that the group had worked on several game models, so he considered that the conditions for winning first place had been created.

The team comprise six tennis players, namely, Quipeua, Joelson, Edvirgem, Gabriela, Niria and Mariana, technically led by Domingo Celestino and Camila Nzila.

In total, the Angolan caravan, which traveled to Lilongwe on Sunday, is made up of 95 athletes from athletics and adapted athletics, basketball (male and famale), football, gymnastics, swimming, taekwando and tennis.

In games for athletes aged up to 19 years old, the general objective is to overcome the third position obtained in 2021, in Lesotho.
