Angola: President Highlights Handball Team Commitment

Luanda — Angolan head of State João Lourenço highlighted Tuesday the commitment of the senior women's handball team for winning the fifteenth title of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), played this month in Dakar, Senegal.

Speaking at the homage ceremony paid to the athletes, coaching staff and members of the Angolan Handball Federation, the Head of State said that the victory means that across the continent the national team are the one that make the most effort and deserves the most.

"We are committed to continuing to provide all the necessary support, with a view to guaranteeing future victories that we are sure will come", he expressed.

João Lourenço stated that the investment made in the sport has had a good return, a fact that will lead the Government to continue investing.

"We would like other sports to follow your example, because it is possible, as long as there is work", concluded the president.

Angola won for the fifteenth time and fourth consecutively, the title of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), in senior women's handball, by defeating Cameroon 29-19, in a match played at the Dakar Pavilion (Senegal).

With this achievement, Angola qualified for the 26th edition of the World Cup, taking place from 30 November to 17 December 2023, to be co-organised by Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

At the level of the African continent, the teams of Senegal, Cameroon and Congo are also qualified.
