Africa: New Videos - Cheikh Ibra FAM, Lucas Santtana, Fally Ipupa, Sampa the Great, Ayra Starr

We recently launched the Afropop Worldwide Top Video playlist on YouTube and this week we have five great new entries, beginning with Senegalese singer and multi-instrumentalist Cheikh Ibra Fam with a message about water. "Innovation Africa (Open the Tap)."

Next, the latest from Congolese rumba star Fally Ipupa who is gradually releasing tracks and videos from his forthcoming, epic, 31-song album Formule 7. For more check out Banning Eyre's recent interview with Fally.

Lucas Santtana is an innovative, soulful Brazilian artist from Salvador, Bahia. We first met him at WOMEX 2022 in Porto. His new album, Sorties, will be featured on our January 2023 program on new Brazilian music. This song, featuring Flavia Coelho, is a playful critique on modern technological life, "Muita Powe, Pouca Yoga." "Many Poses, Little Yoga."

Sampa the Great has been blowing up this year with her saucy blend of African pop and hip-hop. This clip, featuring Angelique Kidjo, is Angelique's pick for Afropop's year-end show "New Africa 2022."

Finally another young rising star, this time in Nigeria's competitive Afrobeats market, Ayra Starr. Ayra has been wracking up huge numbers on YouTube and other platforms. Definitely one to watch! This video "Rush" has earned 42-million views in two months! (She has a newer video too, but it's a bit rude for this playlist!)
