Washington, DC — On behalf of the family of Patricia Baine, and the Board of Directors of The Africa Society, we are grateful for the outpouring of love, respect and sympathy that has been received from people throughout the United States, Africa and around the world response to her passing on December 10, 2022.
We want to inform you of the arrangements that have been made to honor this remarkable leader, visionary, and friend whose life has impacted countless individuals and who has changed the face of the continent of Africa in America.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Joseph Gawler's Sons, LLC, Funeral Home, located at 5130 Wisconsin Ave, NW, Washington, D.C. 20016.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Harvest Intercontinental Church, located at 16227 Batchellors Forest Rd, Olney, MD 20832. A reception will follow the service.
The Africa Society Board of Directors will be hosting a memorial luncheon in January for family, friends, and the Africanist community. Date and venue will be announced soon.
Funeral services and burial will take place in Kampala, Uganda in January. Dates will be provided pending the finalizing of arrangements.
To signify Patricia's commitment to the Africa Society's flagship program, TEACH AFRICA that has educated thousands of students, and trained hundreds of teachers throughout the United States about the contributions of Africa and its citizenries, The Africa Society is renaming the program to the Patricia Baine TEACH AFRICA Program.
There have been requests regarding how best to contribute to the family of Patricia Baine by recognizing her life achievements. An Africa Society Patricia Baine Memorial Fund is being set up to receive donations and will be found on The Africa Society's website at https://africasummit.org/ and will also be shared through other mediums.
