Africa: NMB Wins Best Employer Award in Africa

NMB Bank has scooped the best employer award in Africa proving its operational and management superiority in the local banking space.

Speaking before receiving the award in Dar es Salaam recently, the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Filbert Mponzi, said the recognition was yet another testimony of the value they accord their employees.

"The value of workers to us is pivotal since they are our top asset and the source of our success story, including the many awards we have been winning," Mr Mponzi noted before receiving the accolade from Chief Human Resources Officer Mr Emmanuel Akonaay.

The lender scooped the Best Employer Brand - Africa in Port Louis, Mauritius, last week during the gala to award leading performers by the Employer Branding Institute.

Among other areas, the organisation recognises outstanding entities in talent management, development and innovation.

NMB was honoured for leadership in advancing workers' interests and investing in the professional and career development.

Mr Mponzi, who is also NMB's Chief of Retail Banking and Business, said being the top employer in Africa mostly emanates from the fact that they recognise the importance of its workforce and the investment it has been making them to grow and deliver accordingly.

"The award should make our employee feel proud of being employed by the best bank in the country and in Africa," Mr Mponzi pointed out during the short function to receive the award.

Yesterday, Mr Akonaay, who received the latest award on December 13 in Mauritius, said the new accolade was continuation of the bank's monumental achievements this year.

"This development follows the achievements we had with the Jasiri and EDGE Certification, which have made us a brand to reckon with in Africa," Mr Akonaay noted.

Apart from being the best employer, NMB is also the best local bank. In the past two years alone, it has accumulated over 20 international awards from reputable global publications such as World Economic Magazine, Global Brands Magazine, International Banker Awards, and International Business Magazine.

So far this year alone, it has scooped 21 local and international awards. The bank was recently named the overall Employer of the Year 2022 during a gala dinner organized by the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) in Dar es Salaam.
