Kenya: Orengo Vows to Deal Firmly With Rogue County Officials

29 December 2022

Siaya — Siaya Governor James Orengo has vowed to fully implement the task force report on the county's financial operations.

Orengo who received the preliminary report on Thursday from the task force chair and former Auditor General Edward Ouko said there will be no "sacred cows".

"I commit to fully implement this report in its entirety once completed," he said.

The task force will present the final report to the Governor on January 20, 2023.

The Governor had in September formed the task force following reports of endemic and systematic corruption in the county.

The mandate of the task force is to do an evaluation, assessment, and determination of the country's workforce and revenue administration.

The Governor had blamed the runaway corruption on "a rotten county treasury" accusing the officials of looting public resources.

At the time, Orengo stopped payment of pending bills until verification and confirmation save in cases of essential services and emergencies.

He further directed the County Treasury not to pay or engage in any financial transactions without his direct authority.
