Kenya: Ktda Releases Sh2.47bn Payment for January Green Leaf Deliveries

8 February 2023

Nairobi — The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has disbursed a Sh2.47 billion payment to farmers for January green leaf deliveries.

The agency said the payment was slightly delayed by a system hitch which has since been rectified.

"Farmers should be able to access the money from tomorrow(Thursday) being payment for 120 million kilogrammes of green leaf delivered to KTDA-managed factories," the agency said in a statement.

This disbursement follows the Sh5.5 billion payment made last month for the mini-bonus and December 2022 green leaf deliveries.

"KTDA remains committed to the welfare of the farmers and endeavors to continually maintain and improve their interests," the agency said in a statement.

Early payment of farmers' dues is part of reforms being instituted by the KTDA Holdings Board.

In a recent briefing, KTDA chairman David Ichoho promised farmers that they will receive their pay by 5th of every month.
