Nairobi — President William Ruto has appointed a selection panel that will help in the recruitment of the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
In a gazette notice issued last evening, President Ruto tasked the seven members with the responsibility of nominating persons for positions of IEBC Chairperson and Commissioners.
The selection Panel comprises representatives from the Public Service Commission, the Parliamentary Service Commission, the Political Parties Liaison Committee, the Law Society of Kenya, and the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya.
The members include Bethuel Sugut, Novince Euralia Atieno, Charity Kisotu, Evans Misati James, Benson Ngugi Njeri, Nelson Makanda and Fatuma Saman.
The process of constituting the electoral commission comes a month after the tenure of IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu came to an end.
IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera and Commissioners Justus Nyang'aya and Francis Wanderi resigned last year following allegations of violation of the constitution and gross misconduct in the 2022 general election.
