Kenya: Court Lifts Injunction Stopping Media Council of Kenya Recruitment Exercise

27 February 2023

Nairobi — The Employment and Labour Relations Court has lifted the injunction on the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) board selection committee pending a full hearing.

Following the ruling, the council is now free to recruit new board members to replace the outgoing team.

The court had earlier frozen the exercise after a Nakuru based surgeon Magare Gikenyi filed a case challenging it.

Justice Monicah Mbaru lifted the orders following the disclosure that there were similar cases filed over the recruitment exercise before the High Court at Milimani and Kajiado.

The judge directed the parties to exchange their responses in readiness for a hearing.

She said that the court will decide whether to reinstate the freeze only when it has heard the two sides.
