Nandi County Senator Kiprotich Cherargei claimed on his Twitter handle that prices of some commodities had dropped, coming on the back of high food prices in the country.
Some of the products whose prices had dropped include unga (Sh154), 6Kg Taifa gas (Sh850), bar sopa (Sh135), and 2Kg sugar (Sh270), among others.
However, a spot-check by Capital Business found this to be untrue.
A 2Kg of Ndovu costs Sh203, a 500Ml of Tuzo costs Sh59, a 1Kg of Menegai soap costs Sh159, and a 2Kg of sugar costs Sh299.
At the nearby Naivas Supermarket, a 2 kg Soko maize meal (Sh 194), Pembe maize meal (Sh 208), and Jogoo (Sh 181) were available.
"Unga @2kgs 154/- Ndovu @2kgs 179/- Taifa Gas 6kg @850/- 13kg@1500 Sugar 2kg@270/- Bar Soap@135/- Milk 49/-," the Senator tweeted.
"The cost of living is steadily coming down for all Kenyans. H.E Ruto has managed to stabilize the economy that was in the ICU to HDU in 2 full recovery.
Kenyans, in response to the senator's tweet, have lamented, stating that the tweet is political and that the offer was valid for one day only in one supermarket.
"Stop this nonsense. This is a supermarket promotion. You need to stop this sideshow and address the high cost of living that is afflicting millions of Kenyans" Mukami Mungai tweeted.
"A whole senator coming on here to brag about one day supermarket offers as a government achievement, when will this country ever get serious"
"Eee Bwana Senator, where do we get these commodities at the said price because it doesn't reflect the real prices on the shelves."
Last week, a section of Kenyans asked the government to be realistic in its efforts to combat the rising cost of living.
Those who spoke to Capital Newsbeat challenged the government to roll out tangible solutions to help ease the situation.
"The cost of living is high; prices are going high every day. For instance, a few years ago, we were buying one tomato at five bobs, right now one tomato is ten bobs." Kelvin, a hawker at Nairobi lamented.
Kenyans have continued to complain about the high cost of living and demand that the government come to their rescue.
