Lugari — Retail and wholesale shops in Lugari Sub County have been cautioned against selling fake and expired goods that threaten the consumers' health.

The Sub County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu issued the warning amidst intensified crack down on illegal products in the local market centres.

Ngungu said officers drawn from the County and Regional Directorate of Criminal investigations offices are carrying out the crackdown targeting unscrupulous merchants.

"The DCI officers are on the ground. Their target is contrabands, counterfeits and expired goods. Our appeal to traders is that let them sell genuine products that are not harmful to consumers. Those found culpable will be arrested and will face the full force of the law for endangering the lives of their customers," he stated.

The police officer urged residents to be vigilant and always cross check the expiry dates and quality standards of goods before they pay for them.

"Expired products are poisonous and harmful to our health. Our appeal is that residents should be alert and report devious merchants selling these products."Ngungu added. - Kna
