Kenya: Odinga Among Leaders Expected at Burial of Luo Council of Elders Chairman Ker Otondi

Nairobi — The Chairman of Luo Council of Elder Ker Willis Otondi is set to be buried at his home in Nyahera on Saturday.

Ker Otondi passed away on February 17, 2023, at the age of 98.

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, Governors, and Members of Parliament are expected at the burial.

According to the Funeral Committee Chairman and Kisumu County Assembly speaker Elisha Oraro, before the Ker Otondi is lowered into the grave, Luo elders will lead the community, family, and friends in a ceremony filled with a series of rites that will ensure the Ker's life is celebrated while at the same time, the Luo culture is upheld.

The cultural rites were also adhered to on Thursday when the body of the prominent Luo elder was taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex at the heart of Kisumu city for public viewing.

Oraro added on Saturday the body will be taken to Ogada Secondary School from morning to evening as Ker will be laid to rest in accordance with the Luos customs and culture.
