Nairobi — Lawyer P.L.O Lumumba has called for a cease-fire between President William Ruto and Azimio One Kenya leader Raila Odinga, noting that the country is on tenterhooks due to planned mass protests.

In a confidential letter addressed to both leaders, P.L.O observed that President Ruto was duly elected, but noted that the country has not been at ease after Raila and his compatriots rejected the outcome.

Lumumba observed that Azimio's denial of the results and the subsequent public engagements by Raila and the latest 14-day ultimatum are not good given the country's current economic situation.

Addressing President Ruto, P.LO asked him to show leadership and calm the situation by reconciling with the Azimio leader, and ignore those asking him to maintain a hard stance.

"Continue discharging your duties as the duly elected president of the republic of Kenya without fear or favour but work with the opposition to ensure economic recovery, social cohesion and political stability." stated Lumumba.

On the other hand, he appealed to Raila to shelve his plans for countrywide demonstrations for the sake of the country's stability, and instead use other channels like independent institutions in keeping the government in check.

"However much aggrieved you feel, you concede that short of a disruptive revolution we have a flat accompli as to who is the President of the Republic of Kenya. Further, I beseech you to use your considerable experience and influence to help existing institutions such as Parliament to bring necessary changes as we look to the future." he said.

Raila last week said he will make a major announcement on Thursday next week.
