Kenya: UDA Opens Kisumu Office to Enlist New Members

Kisumu — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has opened its office in the lakeside city of Kisumu to enlist new members.

The interim officials pledged to register 250,000 new members during the registration period running from February to June this year.

Kisumu County UDA interim chairman Francis Osenya says they will comb every village in the county to recruit new members in the region.

"So far we have registered close to 2,000 new members in this ongoing membership registration exercise across the county," he said.

Osenya says the exercise is being conducted over board, without any coercion or bribery.

He says from the wards, they will go to the sub counties, upwards to the county to ensure no one is left behind during the registration exercise.

Addressing a press conference in Kisumu on Friday at their new office located in the posh Mililani estate, Osenya says the number of people with the intention to join the UDA party after the election is massive.

"I can confirm here that many people from other parties are willing to join the UDA party, this is after our party formed the government," he said.

He says UDA party members and supporters in Kisumu County, including aspirants in the last general election have pulled up resources to aid in setting up the office.

They will also facilitate other logistics for the recruitment exercise.

Osenya says the office is now functional and will help in coordinating the party activities in the region.

He spoke as UDA party Secretary General Cleophas Malala is expected in Kisumu County on Saturday to launch the registration exercise.

"On Saturday we will launch this exercise in Ahero, Nyando Sub County and we are expecting top party officials," said Osenya.

The interim chair claimed the notion that Kisumu County is an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party zone is an old adage.

He asserted that the democratic space is now open for everyone to make their own decision driven by freedom of choice and value orientation.
