Kenya: City Hall Removes Hilton Hotel Barriers Easing Pedestrian Movement

Nairobi — The Nairobi County Government has removed the barrier that had blocked access outside the Hilton Hotel easing mobility for pedestrians.

Two days ago Governor Sakaja, while on a walk around CBD said the barrier at the Hilton Hotel should be removed.

The activity was carried out on Thursday evening to minimise disrupting traffic in the busy area.

Nairobi City County Mobility and Works Sector has recently intensified rehabilitation works on all the walkways along Moi Avenue in the Central Business District as part of efforts aimed at easing movement in the city.

The ongoing works are scheduled to be completed at the end of April 2023.

Chief Officer Mobility, Boniface Nyamu said: "World over walkways also known as NMTs (non-motorised transport) are a major means of transport in the city which include cycling and pedestrian spaces. Sufficient walkways, therefore, cater to the majority of the city population."

Walkways play an important role in connecting public transport termini to places of work.

Some of the areas that have been mapped out for immediate rehabilitation include; Tom Mboya, River Road, Accra road, Latema Road, Race Course road, and parts of Moi Avenue.
