Kenya: Nyeri Archbishop Muheria Calls for Audit of Religious Leaders to Weed Out Rogue Preachers

Nyeri — Nyeri archbishop Antony Muheria has called for a wealth audit of all clergy members with a view of weeding out unscrupulous preachers.

The Bishop said that most preachers have become careless by choosing the path to wealth other than giving hope the their faithfuls.

He said that as a result many of them are accumulating a lot, a thing that has made them multi- millionaires in less than an year after venturing into prosperity gospel.

Muheria said that he will be on the front line when clergy members are called to declare their wealth, adding that this shall be the onset to regularising religious institutions.

He however urged Kenyans to be cautious noting that gullibility has pushed many to desperation occasioning loss of lives.

He instead advised them to work towards wealth adding that there shall be no miracle that shall make them acquire any material wealth.

Muheria said this in a press briefing where he also condemned the Shakahola incident that has shocked the nation.

While expressing his sympathies to the bereaved families the Archbishop said that the local administration, political leadership and the locals should take the blame having let this happen without raising an alarm or even acting to stop cultic acts by a man hiding behind religion.
