Nairobi — President William Ruto has lauded outgoing Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi's contribution to the Kenya Defence Forces' quest for excellence.
Speaking Saturday during the swearing in of Kibochi's successor General Francis Ogolla and Lieutenant Jonah Mwangi as Vice Chief of Defence Forces, the Head of State challenged the new chiefs to emulate standards set by their predecessors.
Kibochi exits the service after 44 years.
President Ruto praised Kibochi for demonstrating leadership both in "good times and difficult times" when he was in charge of the military.
"I want to congratulate general Kibochi our outgoing CDF for an outstanding service not just to our military but to the nation of Kenya," Ruto said.
The Head of State wished Kibochi all the best as heads to his retirement.
While congratulating the new CDF, President Ruto said that the government has confidence in him and his leadership of the military.
"In considering your appointment, I assessed your background, where you have come from, what you have done, your journey in the military, and I am satisfied that you merit the office," he said.
"You have my confidence the confidence of the government of Kenya to discharge your responsibilities in your new office."
The Head of State stated that he expects that the professional standards of the Kenyan military will be observed under his leadership.
