Kenya: Treasury CS Njuguna Ndungu to Deliver Budget Statement on June 8

Nairobi — The National Treasury Secretary Njuguna Ndugu is expected to deliver the 2023/2024 Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, June 8, 2023.

Njuguna has in the meantime asked Members of the Public to submit their contributions and ideas on economic policy and tax measures.

He says the proposals should be shared with the National Treasury by the close of business on Friday next week.

The National Treasury says the suggestions should be centered on measures to accelerate economic recovery, ways to bring down the cost of living, and any other budget tips.

"Proposals should be centered on how to strengthen implementation of Government priority programmes under the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) geared towards an economic turnaround and inclusive growth," said the Treasury and Planning CS

He is seeking tips on how to foster a secure and conducive business environment to promote investment growth, business recovery, and creating jobs.

"Proposals should be centered on how to integrate the youth and women into accelerating sustainable economic recovery and ways to enhance revenue mobilization and prudently manage public resources," Njuguna says in a statement.

Njuguna is proposing to spend a total of Sh3.6 trillion to run President William Ruto's first term administration while maintaining a tough balancing act between debt servicing and supporting economic recovery.

This will be the first full financial year under the Kenya Kwanza administration, which came to power after the August 9, 2022 election.

Kenya Kwanza's economic recovery agenda is geared towards increasing investment in at least five sectors envisaged to have the largest impact and linkages to the economy and household welfare.

These sectors include agriculture, Micro, Small, and Medium enterprises (MSME), housing and settlement, healthcare as well as the digital superhighway and the creative industry.
