Kenya: DP Gachagua Orders Rift Valley Police to Deal Decisively With Illicit Brew, Drug Abuse Menace

Nakuru — Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has directed the police in rift valley to clear illicit brew and drugs or risk losing their jobs.

Speaking during a conference on ending alcoholism and drug abuse in the regiob, Gachagua said the officers know those peddling illicit brew and drugs, which are threatening to wipe out a generation of youth.

His ultimatum came weeks after similar instructions in counties within Mt Kenya region where Gachagua declared that nobody will be spared in the war against illicit alcohol and drug abuse.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika suggested measures that will generate bigger sanctions for those selling illicit brews.

She said the current fines meted out to those engaging in the sale of illicit liquor are not doing enough to curb the vice.
