Kenya: Preacher Arrested for Allegedly Defrauding Mwea Town's ACK Church of Sh2 Million Meant for Church Seats

Nairobi — Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have apprehended a preacher on suspicion of swindling the ACK Mwea Town Church out of Sh2 million that was intended for the procurement of church seats.

Preliminary investigations reveal that in February, the church leadership entered into a contract with Apostle Blessed Gilbert Kariuki and his spouse to deliver 410 seats to the church by April 10, 2023.

However, the preacher failed to deliver the seats as agreed and subsequently disappeared, leaving the church in a state of financial loss.

"As reported by the church faithful at Wang'uru Police station, the man of the cloth swindled them their money before disappearing," the DCI said Tuesday.

According to detectives, efforts to reach the preacher turned futile, prompting the church vicar to file the report.

Police immediately swung into action and successfully apprehended the suspect.

On Monday, Kariuki was arraigned at Wanguru law courts, where he answered to charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.
