Kenya: DPP Seeks 60 More Days to Detain Pastor Mackenzie in Shakahola Cult Probe

Mombasa — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is seeking an additional 60 days to hold controversial Shakahola Forest cult preacher Paul Mackenzie to complete its investigations.

This is after the initial 30 day period they were granted lapsed even as the number of his followers eho were exhumed after dying ofm starvation rose to over 240.

The High Court had allowed police to continue detaining Mackenzie for a month so as to complete investigations in his alleged cult activities.

Mackenzie was in custody alongside his wife and 16 other people arrested in the ongoing investigations.

Prosecutors had wanted them detained for 3 months to enable police conclude investigations on their role in the shocking religious cult activities but the court said three more weeks are enough.
