Nairobi — President William Ruto says the government is committed to creating an enabling environment for the creative economy.
The President indicated that his administration is focused on the creative economy by supporting sports and art activities in learning institutions to create a solid foundation.
The Head of State was speaking as he hosted the Kenya National Drama Festival State Concert at the State House, the first since he assumed office.
"We are spending money from Sports and Arts Fund in this drama festival because they form an integral part of how we can develop this industry from the bottom going up by starting with our children to build a solid foundation," he said.
President Ruto assured that Talanta hela which he established this year would revamp the sports and creative's industry. Talanta Hela has two technical committees, one for sports and one for creative's.
Talanta Hela suffered a significant setback after the high court suspended its implementation pending the hearing and determination of a petition filed in court.
"I am clear in mind that Talanta hela will give us an opportunity to monetize, commercialize and profile positively our men and women in the creative industry," Ruto stated.
The President has directed the Ministry of Sports and Creative Industry to permanent presidential commission on music changed to permanent creative economic commission.
The move is aimed at ensuring that the channeled synergy by the government and private sector is aimed towards one pool of the talented in creative and sports industry.
"We can bring all art and music into one eco system and we can be able to rally government and private sector effort in the same direction so that we can derive value , monetize and give chance those talented to explore their possibilities,"Ruto said.
