Kenya: National Prayer Breakfast Be Held Every Last Thursday of May Annually-Wetangula

Nairobi — Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula has announced that National Prayer Breakfast will be held every last Thursday of May every year.

Speaking on Wednesday during the National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi, Wetangula said the event will be organized by Parliament and will have a determinate day in the calendar.

"As we move on to the future, the National Prayer Breakfast will be held on the last Thursday of May, and will be the key event by Parliament," he said.

This year's prayers which are on their 20th edition were themed 'Reconciliation with God and with Man'.

Wetangula said they are deliberate on uniting the country to be at total peace with itself.

"Reconciliation is not an easy task as it invites us to look inward and accept our shortcomings," he said.

The 2023 annual National Prayer Breakfast that was due to take place on May 31 was postponed to June 7.

President William Ruto has also backed up the announcement stating that the national prayer should be marked as the general elections that always take place after every five years.

He continued by saying that choosing a precise day for the prayer will assist prevent dates from being postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, which has happened in the past and caused inconveniences.

"We will not be looking for a date going into the future on when to hold the National Prayer Breakfast, it is now confirmed that it is the last Thursday of May every year and all of us will put it on our calendars," he said.

"I think it is partly informed by the fact that this prayer breakfast has been shifted from last week and it had happened again before so we will all diaries the same way we have elections every second Tuesday of August every fifth year and we all now know when our prayer breakfast should be."

President William Ruto presided over the event as His first prayer breakfast since he assumed office in September last year.

Leaders present included First Lady Rachael Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang'ula and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah, among other leaders.
