Project name: Programme to support inclusive access to healthcare infrastructure

Instrument: results-based financing.

Amount: Ꞓ120 million

Objectives

The project aims to expand access to healthcare services, thereby helping improve people's well-being, particularly women living in rural or isolated areas.

Components

Component 1: Improving access to healthcare infrastructures (primary and secondary).

Component 2: modernize healthcare services by deploying innovative solutions that improve connectivity.

Component 3: Strengthen governance through better allocation of human and financial resources.

Target area and population

The entire population, with a particular focus on the regions of Beni Mellal-Khénifra, Draa-Tafilalet and Guelmin-Oued Noun.

Expected project results

Women's and children's care units are operational at the new Guelmim Regional Hospital and the Fkih Ben Salah Provincial Hospital.

Building and equipping hospitals in the targeted regions (construction of the Beni-Mellal Regional Hospital Center and the Azilal Provincial Hospital Center, and equipping the Fkih Ben Salah Provincial Hospital Center).

Equipping remote sites with telemedicine and teleconsultation facilities.

Strengthening staff of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the territorial health.

Increase in the number of graduates from higher institutes of nursing and health technology.

Project background

Over the past two decades, Morocco has made considerable investments in the health sector.

Maternal and infant mortality and the coverage of key maternal and child health interventions have improved.

In 2018, the government committed to implementing the "Health 2025" Plan to improve people's access to quality healthcare. The plan focuses on four reform imperatives: (i) extending protection against health risks through the generalization of health insurance and pensions; (ii) creating a social assistance system targeted at the most vulnerable families; (iii) overhauling the health sector and; (iv) reforming the public education system.
