Kenya: Tabitha Karanja Steps Down as Keroche CEO After 25 Years At the Helm

Nairobi — Keroche Breweries Ltd. CEO and founder Tabitha Karanja has called it a day at the firm after 25 years at the company.

Nation.Africa reported that Karanja, who is the current Nakuru Senator, will be replaced by Potas Anaya.

Her resignation will allow her to focus on the county where she was elected last year.

Karanja is credited with growing the firm to become one of the biggest locally owned breweries in the country.

It competes with some of the big players, such as East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), among others.

However, the firm has been at loggerheads with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on claims of unpaid dues.

KRA's tiff with the Naivasha-based brewer began in 2006 when the taxman classified its fortified wine products under Harmonised System Code Tariff.

The reclassification saw Sh1.1 billion in taxes from the KRA.
