Nairobi — The Universal Health Care (UHC) Cover will receive an allocation of Sh18.4 billion to enable the implementation of the program aimed at ensuring efficient service delivery in the country.
Overall, the Ministry of Health is set to receive Sh141.2bn to support various programs in all the state departments and agencies domained under the docket.
This is a decrease in allocation as Former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration had allocated Sh146.8 billion to cater for health care services in the 2022/2023 budget.
"The Kenya Kwanza administration is committed and determined to realise the constitutional right to health in the shortest time period by delivering a UHC system. This entails promoting access to quality and affordable healthcare through the UHC programme," said Ndungu.
The national government contracted more than 8,550 staff under the UHC program.
They were recruited and deployed across various counties on three-year contracts.
President William Ruto had said Kenya will employ technology to roll out the Universal Health Care (UHC) programme.
The President said this will ensure efficiency, stop pilferage, and secure access for all Kenyans, especially those at the bottom of the wealth pyramid.
"UHC is a top priority for this administration. We need to reconfigure how we deliver health services and technology is the solution," he added.
According to the budget estimates Sh4.1 has been allocated to the free maternity program, Sh1.7bn for elderly, disabled as well as h5.9 billion for the controversial Managed Equipment Service project.
To lower cases of HIV AIDS, Malaria and tuberculosis in the country Sh24.8 billion has been allocated with Sh4.6 billion set aside to enhance vaccines and immunization program.
The National Assembly has been urged to effect Sh1.9 billion which will be used for construction of cancer centre at Kisii level 5 hospital.
Various hospitals across the country have also been allocated funds with the Kenyatta National Hospital being the biggest beneficiary after being allocated Sh 21.6 billion.
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital has been allocated Sh12.8 billion followed by the Kenya Medical Training Center given Sh8.8 billion.
The Kenya Medical Research Institute has been allocated Sh3.3 billion.
Sh 2.4 billion for the Kenya National Hospital and Pediatric Center with Sh1 billion allocated for procurement of family planning and reproductive health care commodities.
