Kenya: Cyber Attacks in Kenya Drop By 25% to Hit 187,8 Million in Three Months

Nairobi — Cyber attacks on Kenyan firms dropped by 25 percent to 187.8 million in three months to March this year compared to the preceding quarter of last year, a new report shows.

Data from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) shows that the country reported 187.8 million cases of attacks between January and March 2023, down from 249.99 million between October to December last year.

When businesses embraced online platforms such as e-commerce as well as working-from-home formulas, cyber attackers took advantage of it and began attacking business organizations through their websites.

These attacks forced many businesses and clients to invest in water-tight cyber security solutions besides being proactive to detect anomalies online.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) warned lenders in 2017 that they were susceptible to cyber attacks and bank-related frauds.

A total of 26.4 million malware were reported during the period as well as 7. million DDOS.

Similarly, web application attacks increased 128, 514, and system vulnerabilities (153.6 million).
