EASTERN CAPE - The disruptive 'Catch Me If You Can' operation by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members arrested Zukisa Makile (42) on 03 July 2023 for charges of fraud.

Between 01 January 2017 and 01 December 2018, Makile who was employed at the Rhodes University as a financial administrator in the finance department allegedly processed fraudulent travel and subsistence claims on the accounting system for payment. It is further reported that Makile successfully transferred the funds to someone's bank account and later withdrew cash for his personal use.

During auditing, the 'red flag' was picked up and the matter was reported to the Hawks in Gqeberha for investigation which revealed that the university was actually prejudiced cash of more than R480 000.

Makile made his first court appearance at the Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 04 July 2023 where he was released on warning. The case was remanded to 10 July 2023 for legal representation.
