Kenya: Kilifi South MP Chonga Arrested Following Stand-Off With Police

Kilifi — Kilifi South Member of Parliament Ken Chonga has been arrested following a standoff that ensued between police and elected leaders in Mtwapa.

Chonga was arrested after the police ordered the politicians and their supporters to disperse indicayting that their march was illegal because they had not notified the security agencies as required by the Public Order Act.

Also arrested include Kilifi County Assembly Speaker Teddy Mwabire, and former Mtepeni MCA Victor Mwaganda. Currently being taken to Kilifi police station

Senate Minority Leader Steward Madzayo who was among politicians said they wanted to march to the County Commissioner's officer where they intended to present a petition to compel the government to institute measure to cushion Kenyans over the high cost of living.

The leaders and their supporters where later forced to disperse.
