Addis Ababa, 31 July 2023 - The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has partnered with Ethiopian artists on a "harmonious change" themed mural that translates the organization's collective ideas and ambition to build an "ECA 2.0" aligned with the Secretary General's vision for a "UN 2.0".

Unveiled on 28 July 2023 at the ECA Niger Building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the stunning mural, designed by Henok Zerebruk of Blackline Design, features a vibrant and modern design that reflects the enthusiasm and aspirations of ECA's Human Resources team.

Depicting important thought streams that define the UN of the future, the mural serves as a source of inspiration and motivation for ECA staff. It showcases the common agenda, the five forces of change, the values and behaviors framework, and the agents of strategy, agility, accountability, diversity, and inclusion.

The mural also highlights the transformative role that the ECA Human Resources team plays in the journey of co-creation. It collates leadership notions of Antonio Pedro, Acting Executive Secretary of ECA, the inspiration of Carlos Haddad, Director of the Division of Administration, and the design inputs of Sajiv Nair, Chief Human Resources Officer, as well as the Human Resources team.

Speaking at the mural's unveiling, Mr. Haddad said, "this is a symbolic representation of our collective effort and shared vision for a better future. It shows that when we work together, it is easier for us to achieve our common goals."

Mr. Nair for his part said, "this creative design relates to the kind of innovations we want to make in the HR space since it embodies new perspectives, youth, and vitality."

The unveiling of the mural marks an important moment for ECA as it embarks on a journey of change towards building a more effective, efficient, and inclusive organization. The mural serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperating as a team, embracing change, and pursuing a common objective.

In summary, the mural serves as a potent representation of ECA's transformative journey and a call to action for all its members to join hands and create a harmonious change towards a better future.
