Botswana: Warm Welcome for Mrs Botswana

Serowe — Residents of Serowe braced Saturday (August 5)morning chill to welcome one of their own, Portia Mokgathong who was crowned Mrs Botswana recently.

Mokgathong will represent Botswana at the Mrs Universe pageant slated for October 8 in Manila, Philippines.

Deputy chief of Ga-Mmangwato, Kgosi Serogola Seretse wished Mokgathong the best during a home coming event held at Serowe main kgotla and expressed gratitude to the Mokgathong family to have given the nation such an intelligent woman to represent the nation internationally.

He is upbeat that Mokgathong will do well and fly the nation's flag high.

Kgosi Seretse said Serowe was blessed for the queen to have graced the main kgotla and appealed to the nation to support and keep her in their prayers.

To Mokgathong he said she must trust and look up to the Lord as she faced the world.

"Jehovah Nissi, this name for God is used to show you that he intends to give you the victory.

His presence and power will see you through any battle with victory.

Never expect defeat in life when you trust God for victory," said Kgosi Seretse.

He said Mokgathong was well versed with family issues, especially matters of marriage.

Mokgathong thanked Batswana for their overwhelming support.

She said Mrs Botswana meant that they were building families to live happily and try everything in their power to bring happiness in families.

Mokgathong said though there were challenges in marriages, the onus was on couples to make it work.

She said she also gave back to the community through her organisation, Anaya-Tlhwatlhwa Foundation that sought to better the lives of the under privileged.

Mrs Botswana director, Kgalalelo Lesetedi thanked dikgosi for allowing them to visit dikgotla saying that Mrs Botswana meant a lot as far as human development was concerned.

She said they worked in partnership with government, to improve the livelihood of Batswana by preaching peace, to give homes dignity.

Marriage she said had pros and cons but resilience was the key to a happy marriage.

Lesetedi appealed to the nation to support Mrs Botswana as that would give her courage to do her best at the world spectacle.
