Kenya: Inquest Told Jeff Mwathi May Have Committed Suicide

Nairobi — Slain Jeff Mwathi was suicidal and alcoholic. the inquest was told.

In his testimony before the inquest, Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo 's lawyer Duncan Okatch told the revealed that the late Jeff was bitter and would take alcohol and threaten to stabbed himself with a dagger.

On one occasion,the deceased complained to one of his close friends, who recorded a statement that he was not happy with how his family treated him.

In his complaints, Jeff disclosed that his mother did not enrol in college after he finished secondary education and instead his younger brother surpassed him who was enrolled immediately after KCSE.

The prosecution witness Stephen Mwangi, however could not tell exactly who killed Jeff or the cause of his death, nor could he establish from the two postmortem that were conducted one by government's chiel pathologist Joansen Oduor and a parallel family doctor

He said that late Jeff never complained to him directly of any problems

In cross examination by the family lawyer Danstan Omari the witness said he had no information to provide to the court on how the deceased met his death.

The late Jeff passed on 22nd February 2023 at Redwood apartment were rumours indicated that he had jumped from the 10th floor flat.

The hearing of the inquest will continue on 1st November 2023
