Kenya: City Hall Way Reserved for Presidential Motorcades in Revised Summit Protocols

5 September 2023

Nairobi — The Ministry of Interior has revised the protocols for accessing the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the venue of the ongoing Africa Climate Summit.

The move came following a routine review of the security arrangements for the summit at the KICC by the Security, Protocol, and Accreditation Subcommittee.

In the new arrangement, access to Tsavo, Aberdares and Lenana ballrooms will only be granted to the delegates accredited to enter the first ballroom (Tsavo).

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said in a statement Tuesday that the rest of the delegates will access the venue through the entrance along Parliament Road.

All ministers, both local and foreign, Principal Secretaries, and Diplomatic Corps will access the venue through the entrance along Harambee Avenue.

All presidential motorcades will access the venue through the entrance along City Hall Way.

"The changes take effect immediately," PS Omollo said.

The Interior PS emphasized that strict adherence will be vital to avoid unnecessary delays, inconveniences, and congestion at the entrances.

He added that the security officers and traffic marshals will be available along the access roads to provide the necessary support and/or direction.

The revised access protocols aim to ensure the smooth functioning of the Africa Climate Summit at KICC and prioritize the safety and convenience of all participants.
