Kenya: Kindiki Visits Nyayo House Again to Oversee Passport Operations

Nairobi — Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has re-affirmed the government's commitment to clearing passport backlog at Nyayo House vowing sustained reforms to stamp out graft.

Kindiki emphasized the government's dedication to enhancing efficiency and eradicating corruption that has plagued the Immigration Department for years.

"There is no turning back on the operational and policy instituted at the immigration department. The backlog must be cleared, and all subsequent applications processed expeditiously," he said.

CS Kindiki made the remarks when he paid another visit to Nyayo House on Monday, to assess the progress in the clearing of the backlog of pending passports.

During his visit, CS Kindiki met with senior Immigration State Department officers, led by Principal Secretary, State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services Julius Bitok and Director General of Immigration and Citizen Services Evelyn Cheluget.

He directed top immigration officials to establish mechanisms that will facilitate a seamless delivery of processed and printed passports to the applicants and handle more than 80,000 uncollected passports.

Later, the CS made a visit to the Civil Registry Services offices in Upper Hill, to get a firsthand experience of persons seeking birth and death certificates for their loved ones.

He directed the Directorate, headed by John Mwangemi to fastrack the issuance of the documents and improve customer experience.

This includes establishment of special counters for expectant mothers, lactating mothers and parents or guardians accompanied by toddlers as well the elderly and persons with disability
