Nairobi — Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has officially opened the Lamu East Sub-County Headquarters on Wednesday following an array of terrorist attacks in the county.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kindiki said criminals will be apprehended and prosecuted individually.
"The Government has no problem with any community or religion as it confronts the challenge of terrorism and violent extremism. No community or religion will be profiled in the fight against crime," he said.
"Our security officers have successfully thwarted many planned terror attacks, and the Government commends them for their diligence, commitment, and patriotism."
The CS added that Political leaders will not be allowed to openly assault, threaten, or encourage hostility against the security officers.
He warned that community leaders who use propaganda to incite conflict and violence in Lamu County will face legal repercussions.
"We shall triumph in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. The Government is equipping security officers with modern equipment, constructing security roads, and establishing a cut line with clear demarcation separating Boni Forest and human habitation," he added.
This follows when a number of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers on Sunday were injured after running over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
A statement from KDF noted that the officers were on patrol along the Milimani Baure road in Lamu when they encountered the unfortunate incident.
"The injured were airlifted to Manda Base Hospital for medical care," KDF said.
KDF condemned the incident calling on resident to collaborate with security agencies to flush out the criminal elements.
"KDF calls upon the residents to share information with the security agencies on these criminal elements who lurk in their communities," KDF said.
On August 22, suspected terrorists attacked motorists in the Lango la Simba area and Salama village, resulting in two fatalities and nine homes being set ablaze.
The attack, which was the third in the region in two months, left more than 20 families homeless.
