Nairobi — Konza Technopolis has launched an Economic Innovation Partnership Programme report, which will act as a blueprint for the implementation of industrial setups in the smart city.
The report has taken into account four paradigms that Konza believes will help mitigate the challenges that bedevil cities in the country.
One of them is the establishment of a startup ecosystem that will provide startups with a favorable environment countrywide.
Other include a master plan for transport network development on the Konza Nairobi corridor, the establishment of a basic plan for creating and fostering smart logistics, the rollout of the Konza smart city intelligent transportation system, and an integrated control center.
"Some of the challenges faced by startups are among others, the ability to incubate. Ideas need to be made compact and curated," Konza CEO John Okwiri said.
"That is one gap that we have been able to see as a country. With this research, we will be able to fill that gap," he added.
The program is being undertaken in partnership with the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).
"We believe that Konza is the designated center for smart logistics. Currently all distribution channels are focused on Mombasa and Nairobi," said KOTRA Nairobi Managing Director Ikhyun Eom.
"If we want to make sure that this is smooth, we need another logistic center."
