18 September 2023

Nairobi — Customers using Safaricom services will now be able to buy insurance covers for as little as Sh25 through a deal with Britam Kenya.

With Sh25 daily, users will get a daily insurance benefit of Sh15,000 for medical expenses, Sh50,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Sh50,000 for funeral expenses, as well as 100MB.

Likewise, customers will be eligible for Sh30,000 (medical expenses), Sh100,000 (accidental permanent total disability), and Sh100 (funeral cover).

"Through this partnership, we aim to reach out to millions of Kenyans who do not have access to insurance protection against various risks that can affect their livelihoods and well-being," Evah Kimani, Britam's Director of Partnerships and Digital, said.

Data Plus will be available for all prepay, individual hybrid, and individual postpay customers.

Insurance plans will be accessible via the Safaricom app or USSD code. They will then receive a notification from Britam confirming the cover.

They will also be able to initiate claims online through a USSD code as well as Britam's WhatsApp chatbot.

All valid claims will be processed within five working days upon receipt of all necessary documentation, with benefits disbursed to the mobile number linked to the bundle.

The Accidental Death Benefit will be paid to the designated beneficiary.
