EdTech Mondays, the monthly radio show produced by the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Shega Media & Technology, is set to unravel the unique opportunities and challenges Ethiopia faces in accelerating digital literacy.

The show, which will air today, September 25, 2023, at 8.10 p.m. via Fana FM 98.1 and 10 other affiliated FM radio stations across the country, will also examine the strategies and initiatives that can be employed to empower educators and students alike with the digital skills required to navigate a rapidly evolving educational landscape.

EdTech Monday’s, which serves as a platform to foster critical conversations on using technology for teaching and learning, shifted its latest focus to digital literacy, recognizing that Ethiopia’s education system, like many others globally, is in a state of transition.

With a growing youth demographic, the country is keenly aware of the need to adapt to the demands of the modern era. The integration of digital literacy is not merely about keeping pace with technological advancements; it’s about ensuring that Ethiopian students are equipped with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.

The forthcoming show will uncover how digital literacy can transform traditional teaching methodologies, enhance students’ critical thinking abilities, and prepare them for the challenges of an interconnected world. EdTech Mondays Radio Show is part of an Africa-wide conversation launched by the Mastercard Foundation, one of the world’s largest private foundations.

The show will feature Yonas Tadelle, IT Director at St. Marks School; Germew Fanta, Quality Manager at St. Marks School; and Kirubel Girma, CEO of GlobeDock Academy, as panelists. The guests will share their personal experiences regarding the impact of digital literacy on education in Ethiopia, discuss strategies to accelerate this impact, and explore the resources and support available for educators and students seeking to enhance their digital literacy skills in Ethiopia.

EdTech Mondays Radio Show is part of an Africa-wide conversation launched by the Mastercard Foundation, one of the world’s largest private foundations.  In addition to running a continental program on CNBC Africa, the Mastercard Foundation collaborates with local organizations to bring discussions about edtech to the local level, incorporating local context, experts, nuances, and case studies.

In Ethiopia, the EdTech Mondays radio show has been airing since October 2022. The show has aired 11 episodes, discussing various topics and featuring several guests.
