19 October 2023

Nairobi — The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has listed items that will not be admitted into examination centers ahead of the commencement of those examinations next week.

In a post shared on the commission's X app account, KNEC has outlined categories of what it calls prohibited materials.

The list comprises electronic gadgets including mobile phones, smartwatches, earphones, tablets, body cameras, camera pens as well as any item with Bluetooth capabilities.

Bags, body writings other than tattoos, printed materials as well as wrist watches will also not be admitted into the examination centers.

"As the rehearsals for 2023 KCSE examination takes place across the country tomorrow, here is a reminder to our esteemed candidates of the Dos and Don'ts during the examination, KNEC wishes all candidates success as they sit the examination," read the post by KNEC.

The communication follows a caution issued by Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang who called on monitoring officers to observe professionalism in discharging their mandate and ensure integrity of the national examinations.

"We play a bigger role than just delivering the examinations, we must also motivate the candidates that this is a process that we all went through and they can also do it successfully," he said.

This year's examinations will be the last under the 8-4-4 system as the country transitions to the new module under the Competency Based Curriculum.
