Kenya: Traffic Update - Uhuru Highway Mombasa Bound Temporarily Closed for Maintenance

19 October 2023

Nairobi — The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of the Mombasa-bound lanes of Uhuru Highway between Haile Selassie and Bunyala Roundabouts from Thursday, October 19th, to Saturday, October 21st, 2023. The closure is necessary to facilitate maintenance work along this section.

KeNHA Director General, Kungu Ndungu, released an official statement regarding the temporary road closure. He emphasized that this measure is essential to ensure the maintenance and safety of the highway.

"KeNHA announces temporary closure of Uhuru Highway Mombasa bound between Haile Selassie and Bunyala Roundabouts from 19th - 21st October 2023," read the statement. "This is to allow for the highway maintenance along the sections."

During this period, drivers heading towards Mombasa Road are advised to divert at the Haile Selassie roundabout. They should then use the Nairobi-bound carriageway in conjunction with other traffic until they can rejoin the Mombasa-bound carriageway at the Bunyala roundabout.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when driving through the affected area and follow all road traffic signs and instructions given by traffic marshals and law enforcement officers. The primary goal is to ensure the safety and efficient flow of traffic during the maintenance work.

KeNHA aims to complete the necessary maintenance promptly, minimizing inconvenience for road users while enhancing the overall condition of Uhuru Highway. Please plan your routes accordingly and cooperate with authorities during this temporary road closure.

This maintenance effort reflects KeNHA's commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of Kenya's road infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens and travelers.
