Kenya: Govt Assures Kenyans of Their Safety During Mashujaa Day Celebrations

19 October 2023

Nairobi — The government has made adequate security arrangements to ensure that tomorrow's Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho County go ahead without a hitch.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan has assured Kenyans that the county is secure and ready to host the event, which will be presided over by President William Ruto.

The 60th Mashujaa celebrations will honor the heroes and heroines who struggled for Kenya's liberty as well as those who have made positive contributions to the country post- independence.

Abdi said that the government has also made adequate plans to manage the traffic to avoid inconveniencing anyone including motorists and travelers transiting through the county.

"Those who will not be interested in coming to Kericho and want to proceed to Kisumu or Kisii or other places will have alternative route and will be guided by the police. We do not anticipate challenges in that area," he said when he made the final inspection of the Mashujaa day venue.

The traffic flow within and outside the county will be coordinated with the Kenya National Highways Authority.

The Rift Valley RC said that they expect at least 10,000 guests during the event that will take place in the newly refurbished Kericho Green Stadium.

"We can say with confidence that we are ready to host this big day tomorrow (Friday)," he said

This year's Mashujaa Day celebration centers around the theme of Universal Health Care-a crucial pillar aligned with the government's commitment to achieving the vision 2030 targets.
