South Africa: MEC Tertuis Simmers Launches Western Cape Electricity Wheeling Toolkit for Municipalities, 23 Oct

press release

On Monday 23 October, the Provincial Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers will launch the Western Cape Government's electricity wheeling toolkit for municipalities.

The kit was developed by the Department of Infrastructure and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism in consultation with industry bodies, municipalities, and private sector stakeholders. It is envisaged that the toolkit will ramp up the rate at which Western Cape municipalities connect private electricity generators to private consumers. This is an effort to mitigate loadshedding and making more independent power producer renewable energy available to consumers, at a reduced cost of supply.

Speaking ahead of this momentous feat Minister Simmers said, "I look forward to this launch and making key announcements for our energy infrastructure portfolio. As a government that prides itself on providing its citizens with services of the highest quality, finding innovative solutions to mitigate the spate of loadshedding is one such service".
