Nairobi — Nakuru is hosting this year's Clean Cooking Week to accelerate access to clean and sustainable cooking in Kenya.

The event is a partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP), the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya (CCAK), and key stakeholders.

Under the theme 'Delivery of clean cooking innovations towards universal access to clean cooking solutions: Invest, Innovate, Involve, and Transform', the function will be held at the Nyayo Gardens until October 26, 2023.

Currently, 2.4 billion people worldwide lack access to clean cooking, leading to numerous adverse impacts on health, the environment, climate, and gender equality.

In Kenya, despite an ambitious goal of achieving 100 percent universal access to modern cooking solutions by 2028, the clean cooking sector is still lagging behind.

The Ministry of Health attributes over 23,000 annual deaths to household air pollution caused by traditional cooking methods.

CCAK, a not-for-profit business membership organization, has been at the forefront of advocating for clean cooking solutions in Kenya since its formation in 2012.

They work collaboratively with the government, private sector, and development partners to create an enabling policy and market environment while also building the capacity of their members and stakeholders to accelerate the transition to universal adoption of clean and efficient cooking solutions.

The 2023 Clean Cooking Week will continue its successful partnership with the MoEP and key stakeholders to promote clean cooking solutions.

This event will feature discussions with national and county governments, knowledge sharing, and media engagement to create widespread awareness and accelerate access to clean cooking by 2028.

The week will focus on promoting transformative innovations in clean cooking solutions, stimulating investments in the cooking sub-sector, and recognizing excellence in planning and budgeting for clean cooking projects.

The event is expected to attract approximately 400 participants.
