Uganda: NRM Secretary General Todwong Pays Courtesy Visit to Katikkiro Mayiga

Ruling NRM party Secretary General, Richard Todwong has paid a courtesy visit to Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga at the Buganda government headquarters in Mengo.

Todwong commended Buganda for its contributions to the wellbeing of Ugandans and the development of the country at large.

"As NRM, we are grateful to you for your deliberate efforts in transforming the lives of the ordinary people through projects in agriculture like coffee growing, education, and health," Todwong said.

The NRM Secretary General equally applauded the Kabaka for being a uniting factor for all the people living in Buganda irrespective of the tribes and political affiliations.

"I am humbled by your gesture of welcoming and consolidating our people across all political divide and religions."

"We are in the public domain to serve the interests of the country. Culture institutions and government are the cooking stones which must work together to benefit the ordinary people."

He also extended to the Kabaka greetings of the NRM Chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the leadership of the party and those of the Acholi Paramount Chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II.

Speaking in response, Katikkiro Mayiga applauded Todwong for the courtesy visit and pledged full support towards the implementation of government policies and programs aimed at alleviating poverty.

"The NRM is of course the party in power and the government implements the programs of the party in power. There are certain aspects of programs that we are interested in like skilling the youth because everybody must be skilled at something in order to survive," Katikkiro said.

"I am sure if they (government) hear programs we have in the Kingdom, they will work with us to enhance those programs that uplift the status of our people."

The Katikkiro underscored the kingdom's commitment to promote the health all citizens and expressed readiness to team up with government in this line.

"We work with government on HIV prevention where the Kabaka is the goodwill Ambassador appointed by the UNAID to fight the spread of HIV and eliminate it by 2030."

Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the kingdom's minister for information and David Ntege, the clerk of the Buganda Lukiiko were also present.
