Uganda: Do Not Come to Tell Me How to Organise Elections, Treat Gay People - Museveni Tells West

25 October 2023

President Museveni has warned the West to avoid wasting time giving him lectures on how to organise elections in the country or how he should treat homosexuals.

Museveni made the statements while officiating at the 4th Youth Business Forum and Expo at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

"These Europeans, I really feel sorry for them because they had a lot of opportunities but they have been misusing them, they come to tell me how to organise elections, I am the expert on elections, you can call me to help you," Museveni said.

"They also tell me how to handle homosexuals, please, I know how to handle homosexuals, so tell these Europeans to leave us alone. I can easily work with the Europeans if they are disciplined," he added.

President Museveni has been having a bruised relationship with the West who have lambasted his government for violation of human rights, post-election atrocities and for signing the anti-gay Bill into law.

However, he has insisted that Uganda will not be lectured on matters of their internal affairs, calling upon the West to respect boundaries.
