Kisumu — Four candidates in Kisumu Central Sub County are writing their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) outside their schools.
According to the Sub County Director of Education, Charles Angiela, three candidates are sitting their exams at Kisumu Children's Remand Centre while the other student is writing the exams while admitted at Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
"We have got three candidates from outside our sub county, they are at the Kisumu Children' Remand center, where they are writing their exams," he said.
He went further to say that a candidate from Golden Elites School is admitted at the Agha Khan hospital.
Angiela oversaw the dispatch of exam materials to different schools across the country as KCPE and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) kicked off countrywide.
He said all exam centers started the first day's paper on time without any hiccups encountered.
Addressing the press in Kisumu on Monday, Angiela noted that the examination center managers were directed to allow any candidate that shows up to write the exams.
"We strictly instructed the center managers that whoever reports as a candidate whether registered or not must be allowed to sit the examinations," he said.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu had directed ministry officials and all schools to allow all students to sit for KCPE exams including those who did not register.
This year's KCPE will be the last as the ministry phases out the 8-4-4 system, making the current class the last lot to sit for KCPE exams.
For Kisumu Sub County, Angiela said there are a total of 6,146 candidates for KPSEA and 6,035 candidates for KCPE writing their examinations.
