Kenya: Mystery At Nyeri Terminus as Bees Perch on Matatu as Passengers Board

1 November 2023

Nyeri — There was drama at the Nyeri bus stage on Wednesday when a swarm of bees descended on a matatu plying the Nyeri - Nanyuki route causing panic among matatu operators.

Drama unfolded when the bees perched on the matatu belonging to the Nanyuki cab services as passengers were boarding causing pandemonium.

This forced operators to swiftly move the vehicle out of the bay but to their amusement the bees perched on the next vehicle on line.

The operators then moved closer to the insects but to their further amusement they did not sting them and could be held even by bare hands as normalcy returned.

Some of the operators told capital FM that they suspect that the swam of bees were as a result of witchcraft over a difference with an elderly passenger whom the stage managers alleged had been denied a refund of his fare.

"We suspect that these insects were sent by an old man whom they had refused to refund his fare he was forced to pay an extra fare and use another company vehicle," one of the touts indicated.

However we could not ascertain his claims and by time of going to the press the bay was still empty with bees in the vicinity.
