TANZANIAN boxer Fadhili Majiha bested Bongani Mahlangu to claim the World Boxing Council title in the super bantamweight category in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Majiha won by unanimous decision over South African boxer Mahlangu who also put on a classy display throughout all 10 rounds. In the fourth round of the match, the Tanzanian boxer landed a series of powerful blows that made the South African boxer slip down twice.
This round was the highlight of the match and thrilled the fans of boxing who cheered for the national envoy. After the fight, Majiha said it was exciting and described his opponent Mahlangu as a good and quick boxer, cautioning that one needs to be careful when fighting him.
"He is a fast and good boxer. I did my homework well. It's interesting that he was too confident to brag that he would teach me how to box. I did my best and I bested him," he said.
On his part, Mahlangu noted it was a good fight but pressed he wants a rematch. On the same boxing night renowned pugilist Ibrahim Class was crowned TPBRC Tanzania Boxing Champion after outclassing Xiao Tau Su of China on point.
The fight was on the main card at PTA Hall in Dar es Salaam. It wrapped up an eventful contest that brought together boxers from within and outside the country. In his brief remarks after exchanging heavy blows, Class admitted that his Chinese counterpart was tough but because of his experience, he sealed a victory.
"I have been in this game for a long time and I know what to do. Of course, it was not an easy match," he said.
