Nairobi — MV SH Diana cruise vessel has made its inaugural call at the Port of Lamu, marking a significant moment for the country's second commercial port, as it prepares for the upcoming festive season.

This momentous occasion follows nine years since the vessel's last visit to Lamu.

The Kenya Ports Authority welcomed the cruise vessel, which carried 57 tourists who were treated to a warm reception at the KPA Lamu Jetty by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and KPA General Manager Lamu, Vincent Sidai.

During their visit, the tourists had the opportunity to explore the historic Lamu Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich cultural and historical significance.

The MV SH Diana is expected to make its next call at the Port of Mombasa, continuing its journey along the Kenyan coast.

The SH Diana (IMO 9921740, MMSI 352002418) is a luxurious passenger cruise ship built in 2023, sailing under the flag of Panama. It is the largest ship in the Swan Hellenic fleet, offering elegant and spacious 5-star accommodations for 192 guests in 96 staterooms and suites, the majority of which feature large balconies.

Named after the Ancient Roman goddess of light, the moon, hunting, and the wilderness, the SH Diana has been specially designed for global cruising, exploring some of the world's most inspiring and remote destinations. The vessel measures an impressive 410 feet (125 meters) in length and 75 feet (23 meters) in width.

The MV SH Diana's visit to Kenya follows the recent port call of the world's largest floating library, the MV Logos Hope, at Mombasa's Mbaraki wharf. The MV Logos Hope, which boasts over 5,000 different types of books, spent 45 days in the country before continuing its journey.

The arrival of these cruise vessels reflects Kenya's growing prominence as a tourist destination, offering travelers unique and enriching experiences.
