Kenya: Man Jailed for 20 Years for Vandalizing KPLC Infrastructure

Kisumu — A Kisumu court has sentenced a suspect to 20 years in jail for vandalism against Kenya Power energy installations and infrastructure.

Polycarp Nyokaye Aringo was sentenced by Senior Principal Magistrate Ezekiel Obina.

Aringo was arrested in 2021 and charged with 12 counts.

He was found guilty of unauthorized disconnection of electrical apparatus, stealing of energy equipment, and vandalism of energy installations and infrastructure.

The theft reported on diverse dates in 2021 happened in the subcounties of Seme, Nyando, and Nyakach.

The value of equipment stolen at all the power stations across the country ranged from Sh250,000 to Sh750,000.

The court documents indicate he was charged jointly with others who did not appear in court.

The vandalism of power infrastructure has left many locals in darkness.
